Sooner or later, you are going to be asked: “Please, can we get that Shih Tzu puppy?”
Rather than dodge the question, parents should decide whether their clan is prepared for a puppy, especially a Shih Tzu, says Sharon Bergen, senior vice president of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, this country’s foremost provider of early childhood care and education.
While deciding “should we get the Shih Tzu” Bergen suggests parents weigh the benefits and drawbacks of adding the Shih Tzu to the household before agreeing to a kid’s wishes. “The Shih Tzu can teach our kids about responsibility and become a fantastic addition to a family-or it can be a burden,” she has said. Bergen recommends you think about the following before deciding:
Things to Think About Before Answering Should You Get The Shih Tzu Puppy
Who is going to care for the Shih Tzu? Families must come to an agreement beforehand who will be in charge of feeding, walking, bathing and picking up after the Shih Tzu.
Do you have an area for the Shih Tzu, and does your landlord allow dogs? Folks who live in townhouses or apartments may be better suited to a fish, a bird, or cat, rather than the Shih Tzu. Check at the library or Internet to find out more about Shih Tzus to decide if another breed may be more suitable for the household.
Raising the Shih Tzu is a big committment and not cheap. The family should realize that they will be expected to forsake other activities to spend time with the Shih Tzu. If that thought is too daunting, you should consider waiting until the child is old enough to help care for the Shih Tzu.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Shih Tzu
Bergen recommends the entire family meet the Shih Tzu prior to deciding to take it home. Rearing the Shih Tzu is a long-term commitment, so think carefully before getting one.
