Are you working to teach your Samoyed to sit? The talent of sitting up is easily taught to compact dogs, but bigger pooches are another story. It’s tough for them to sustain their equilibrium.
Teach Your Samoyed to Sit: Readiness
Sitting up is one of the most basic tricks that you should teach to a Samoyed and forms the groundwork for a large number of other techniques. In order to train a Samoyed to sit up, put together some treats as a reward, and put the Samoyed on her backside in the corner, to ensure she won’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.
Teach Your Samoyed to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase
Stop her from falling forward by maintaining your hand underneath her chin and using the other hand hold her treat above her nose. Keep repeating clearly and deliberately, “sit.” Do not force her to sit up too long at one time, however repeat the lesson frequently and reward her regularly with loads of appreciation and snacks.
Teach Your Samoyed to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced
During her 1st lesson she will call for significant help and support from you to stop her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of her stabilizing muscles and figures out what you want her to do, she will depend less and less upon your hand to hold her in position. Then you can gradually give your Samoyed less assistance up until you will just have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be prepared to prevent her falling forward; in the future you may remove this hand completely and just simply dangle the treat right over the level of your Samoyed’s face.
Teach Your Samoyed To Sit: Remove the Help Over Time
With steady practice your Samoyed will sit up long after you set her up. Next she should be set against the wall, so as to offer her a support for her back only. Only after she has gotten the knack of this and can keep her position easily, rehearse with her against chair legs, pillows or other things that give her less and less support. Ultimately she will be able to keep her stability and sit up without having anything to rest against.
Teach Your Samoyed to Sit: Putting It All Together
During the course of all this training the words "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious with the assistance of constant repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Samoyed to sit up as soon as she hears the command. Chances are, if she has been diligently instructed, you will simply have to call her out into the room, show her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she'll obey. Then just give her the treat while still in place.
The only prerequisite for perfection is to train with her several times daily until she sits when commanded to and without being shown a snack; give her the snacks only after she has obeyed the direction.
Teach Your Samoyed Other Tricks
You have now the method for teaching your Samoyed many other skills. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in sync with yours. She also can learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep a toy in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.
In training a Samoyed to submit to being dressed up, don't try to get her to wear too many things at once. Try her at first with just a hat. After she gets adjusted to that you can put on a coat and eventually introduce her to the other clothes.
