How To Train Your Rampur Greyhound To Sit

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound to Sit

Are you struggling to teach your Rampur Greyhound to sit? The talent of sitting up is quite easily taught to very small dogs, but bigger canines are another story. It’s challenging for them to maintain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound to Sit: Readiness

Sitting up is one of the initial tricks that you should teach to your Rampur Greyhound and provides the foundation for countless other tricks. To train a Rampur Greyhound to sit up, prepare some snacks as a perk, and put your Rampur Greyhound on her butt in the corner, to ensure that she will not fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Sound of The Words

Keep her from tilting towards you by maintaining your hand beneath her chin and with your other hand hold the snack above her face. Keep repeating distinctly and deliberately, “sit up.” Do not make her sit up too long at any one time, but do repeat the lesson routinely and reward her regularly with lots of praise and treats.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound to Sit: Help Her Balance

In her very first lesson your Rampur Greyhound will require quite a bit of assistance from you to prevent her from tumbling forward, but as she gets control of the balancing muscles and makes sense of what you want her to do, she’ll count less upon your hand to keep her steady. Gradually, you can give your Rampur Greyhound less support up until you will simply have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be available to stop her falling forward; in the future you can most likely withdraw this hand entirely and merely dangle the treat just over the height of her face.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound To Sit: Remove the Aids Eventually

With regular training she will sit up well after you set her up. The next step is she should be set against the wall, so as to offer her a support for her back. When she has gotten the knack of this and can maintain her position easily, practice with her using chair legs, pillows or other items that give her less and less assistance. Ultimately she will grasp how to sustain her balance and sit up without relying on something to lean against.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound to Sit: Putting It All Together

During all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind by persistent repetition. Lastly comes the final lesson to teach your Rampur Greyhound to sit up as quickly as she hears the phrase. There's a good chance, if she has been carefully instructed, you will merely have to get her out into the room, show to her a treat, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the treat while still in place.

The only prerequisite for excellence is to practice with your Rampur Greyhound multiple times a day until she can sit when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has obeyed the command.

Teach Your Rampur Greyhound Other Tricks

You have now the technique for teaching your Rampur Greyhound many other skills. She can now learn how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.

While training a Rampur Greyhound to submit to being dressed up, don't try to make her wear too many garments at one time. Try at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes accustomed to that you could put on a jacket and steadily introduce her to the other garments.

Appreciate "teaching your Rampur Greyhound the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun while you're doing it!
