Are you trying to teach your Indian Spitz to sit? The talent of sitting up is regularly taught to smaller dogs, but larger canines are a different story. It is tough for them to maintain their equilibrium.
Teach Your Indian Spitz to Sit: Anticipation
Sitting is one of the fundamental skills that should be taught to a Indian Spitz and lays the foundation for quite a few other tricks. In order to train a Indian Spitz to sit up, organize some snacks as a perk, and set your Indian Spitz on her butt in a corner, so that she is unable to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.
Teach Your Indian Spitz to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase
Keep her from falling towards you by keeping your hand on her chin and with your other hand hold the treat above your Indian Spitz’s face. Keep saying deliberately and clearly, “sit.” Do not make her sit for too long at one time, but repeat the lesson routinely and reward her regularly with lots of kudos and treats.
Teach Your Indian Spitz to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance
During the beginner lesson your Indian Spitz will call for a lot of help from your hand to stop her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of the muscles and understands what you want, she will depend less and less on your hand to hold her in position. Gradually, you can give your Indian Spitz less help until you will just have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be prepared to prevent her falling forward; later you can remove your hand and simply hold the reward just above the height of your Indian Spitz’s face.
Teach Your Indian Spitz To Sit: Remove the Help Gradually
With consistent practice your Indian Spitz will sit up for a good while after you command her. Next she should be set against your wall, so as to provide her support for her back only. Only after she has grasped this and can maintain her posture easily, practice with her against chair legs, pillows or other objects that provide her less and less support. Ultimately she will be able to maintain her balance and sit up without having anything to rest on.
Teach Your Indian Spitz to Sit: Putting It All Together
During the course of all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind by means of constant repetition. Now here's the final lesson to teach your Indian Spitz to sit up as soon as she hears the words. It's highly likely, if she has been diligently trained, you will only have to get her out into the room, reveal to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will do so. Then you'll give her the reward while still in position.
The only requirement for excellence is to practice with your Indian Spitz several times daily until she can sit up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only once she has obeyed the order.
Teach Your Indian Spitz Other Tricks
You have now the technique for teaching your Indian Spitz many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She also can learn to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold a toy in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.
When instructing a Indian Spitz to submit to being clothed, don't try to get her to wear too many things at one time. Try her at first with just a hat. Only after she becomes adjusted to that you could put on a coat and eventually introduce her to the other clothing.
Take joy in "teaching your Indian Spitz the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun while you're doing it!
