How To Teach Your Taigan To Sit

Teach Your Taigan to Sit

Are you attempting to teach your Taigan to sit? The skill of sitting up is quickly taught to smaller dogs, yet much larger pet dogs are another story. It’s tricky for them to sustain their balance.

Teach Your Taigan to Sit: Planning

Sitting up is one of the fundamental tricks that should be taught to a Taigan and forms the ground work for quite a few other techniques. To train a Taigan to sit up, prepare some snacks as a perk, and put your Taigan on her rump in the corner, so she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.

Teach Your Taigan to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words

Protect her from pitching towards you by holding 1 hand underneath her chin and using the second hand hold her snack above your Taigan’s nose. Keep saying distinctly and deliberately, “sit up.” Do not make her sit up too long at one time, but do repeat the instruction frequently and reward her regularly with lots of appreciation and treats.

Teach Your Taigan to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced

Throughout her 1st lesson your Taigan will require quite a bit of assistance from your hand to prevent her from pitching forward, but as she gets more control of her balancing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she will rely less and less upon your hand to hold her steady. Then you can gradually give your Taigan less help up until you’ll simply have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be available to stop her from falling forward; in the future you may take away the hand completely and just hold the snack right above the height of your Taigan’s face.

Teach Your Taigan To Sit: Remove the Assistance Gradually Over Time

After regular training she will sit up for a good while after you make her. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to offer her support for her back only. Soon after she has understood this and can keep her position effortlessly, rehearse with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that give her less and less assistance. In the end she will learn how to keep her equilibrium and sit up without relying on anything to rest against.

Teach Your Taigan to Sit: Putting It All Together

During the course of all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious by means of constant repetition. Lastly here's the final training to teach your Taigan to sit up as soon as she hears the phrase. Most likely, if she has been carefully taught, you will simply have to call her out in the room, display to her a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up or sit" and she'll obey. Then you give her the treat while still in place.

The only necessity for perfection is to practice with her multiple times daily until she sits when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has followed the direction.

Teach Your Taigan Other Tricks

You have now the technique for teaching your Taigan many other tricks. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She can also be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.

While teaching a Taigan to tolerate being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many clothes at the same time. Try her at first with a cap. Only after she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and over time introduce her to more clothing.

Delight in "teaching your Taigan the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun in the process!
