How to Find a Trainer For Your Kishu: What to Look For

• 1) A pristine reputation, inquire and get insight from the vet, other Kishu owners, or local kennel clubs.
• 2) Experience. – Inquire about their background, i.e. number of years experience.
• 3) A genuine love of and devotion to Kishus.
• 4) Extensive and up to date knowledge. Dedicated trainers keep themselves updated by attending dog training and animal behavior courses, conferences, seminars and workshops.
• 5) Their training methodology and handling skills. A good trainers first concern should be the Kishu’s well being.
• 6) Memberships with reputable associations, organizations and training clubs.

Basic Kishu Obedience Tips

Training has to be a positive and rewarding situation for both you and your Kishu. If you are not in the right mindset for training, don’t even begin. Always treat your Kishu for obeying your orders exactly! A reward is anything that your Kishu wants and is happy to work for. Edible treats are an obvious prize but other prizes could be verbal praise and playthings. Several shorter sessions are much more effective than a long one. Training must not involve any negative comments or punishment. There should be no yelling, no hitting or smacking, no leash jerking on training chains or collars, and absolutely no electricity! Every training session needs to be enjoyed and reinforcing with praise for jobs well done.

Dragging the leash is one of the few unpleasant tasks of bringing up a new Kishu puppy. Utilizing a head collar for Kishu training has become very popular throughout the last few years. Training with a head collar does have some benefits over the regular training collar. Although quite simple to utilize, it is crucial that head collars are fitted correctly and your Kishu systematically introduced to the collar. Head collars are generally more simple to use than a regular training collar. Head collars are very powerful when controlling Kishus in tricky situations.
