Basic Brittany Obedience Tips

Training must be a pleasant and rewarding experience for both you and the Brittany. If you’re not in the best mindset for training, do not even think of starting. Always treat your Brittany for listening to your commands to the letter! A treat is anything that your Brittany desires and is willing to work for. Snacks are the usual reward but other treats could be oral praise and playthings. Multiple shorter training sessions are typically more effective than one long one. Training should not contain any degrading comments or consequences. There should be no shouting, no hitting or smacking, no chain jerking on training leashes or collars, and absolutely no electric fences! Every training opportunity must be enjoyed and confidence-building with praise for jobs well done.

Training Brittanys with head collars

Dragging the lead is one of the few negative requirements of bringing up a new Brittany puppy. Utilizing a head collar for Brittany training has become standard over the last few years. Training with a head collar does have some unique advantages over the traditional training collar. Though it’s very simple to use, it is important that head collars are fit properly and your Brittany properly introduced to the collar. Head collars are generally more simple to use than a standard training collar. Head collars are quite effective when guiding Brittanys in tricky situations.
