Standard Bullmastiff Obedience Tips

Training must be a pleasant and enjoyable situation for both you and the Bullmastiff. If you’re not in the right mindset for training, don’t even begin. Always treat the Bullmastiff for listening to your commands to the tee! A reward is anything that your Bullmastiff wants and is happy to work for. Snacks are the typical reward but other prizes could be oral commendation and playthings. Multiple shorter sessions are much more effective than a long one. Training shouldn’t contain any degrading comments or consequences. There should be no yelling, no smacking or hitting, no leash yanking on choke chains or collars, and absolutely no electricity! Each training session needs to be pleasant and confidence-building with prizes for each job well done.

Training Bullmastiffs with head collars

Yanking the lead is one of the few displeasing experiences of raising a new Bullmastiff puppy. Using a head collar for Bullmastiff training has become standard throughout the last few years. Training with a head collar does have some benefits over the usual training collar. Although quite simple to utilize, it is crucial that head collars are fitted correctly and your Bullmastiff properly introduced to the collar. Head collars are generally more intuitive to use than a typical training collar. Head collars are very effective when controlling Bullmastiffs in difficult situations.
