Basic Groenendael Obedience Tips
Training must be a pleasant and rewarding experience for both you and your Groenendael. If you’re not in the right mood for training, do not even think of beginning. Always treat the Groenendael for following your commands precisely! A treat is anything that your Groenendael wants and is happy to earn. Food is the typical prize but different prizes could be verbal praise and playthings. Many brief training sessions are much more effective than a long one. Training should not contain any degrading components or punishment. There should be no shouting, no smacking or hitting, no leash yanking on choke chains or collars, and absolutely no electric shocking! Every training opportunity must be pleasant and positive with treats for each job well done.
Training Groenendaels with head collars
Pulling on the lead is one of the few negative jobs of raising a new Groenendael puppy. Utilizing a head collar for Groenendael training has become standard over the last decade. Training with a head collar does have some advantages over the regular training collar. Although very easy to use, it is important that head collars are fitted properly and your Groenendael correctly introduced to the collar. Head collars are usually more simple to use than a traditional training collar. Head collars are very effective when controlling Groenendaels in tricky situations.
