Training should be a positive and enjoyable situation for both you and your Barbet. If you’re not in the best mindset for training, do not even think of beginning. Always commend the Barbet for following your orders expediently! A treat is anything that your Barbet desires and is happy to work for. Food is an obvious prize but other treats could be verbalized commendation and playthings. Many shorter sessions are demonstrated to be better than one long one. Training shouldn’t involve any negative components or punishment. There should be no yelling, no hitting or smacking, no leash yanking on training chains or collars, and absolutely no electric shocking! Every training opportunity should be enjoyed and confidence-building with rewards for jobs well done.

Training Barbets with head collars

Pulling on the leash is one of the few unpleasant requirements of training a new Barbet puppy. Using a head collar for Barbet training has become very popular over the last few years. Training with a head collar does have some advantages over the usual training collar. Though it’s very simple to use, it is important that head collars are fitted correctly and your Barbet systematically introduced to the collar. Head collars are usually more easy to use than a regular training collar. Head collars are very powerful when training Barbets in difficult situations.
