Sooner or later, every parent is going to hear: “Please, may I have that Kuvasz puppy?”
Instead of avoiding the question, parents are advised to consider if the family is prepared for a puppy, especially a Kuvasz, says Sharon Bergen, senior vice president of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, the country’s leading provider of early childcare.
While considering “should we get the Kuvasz” Bergen recommends the parents evaluate the pros and cons of bringing the Kuvasz to the family prior to agreeing to a child’s wishes. “The Kuvasz can teach our children responsibility and become a wonderful addition to your family-or it can become a chore,” she is quoted as saying. Bergen recommends parents consider the following before committing:
Things to Consider Before Answering Should You Get The Kuvasz Puppy
Who will be the one to care for the Kuvasz? Families should agree beforehand who will be the one responsible for bathing, feeding, walking and picking up behind the Kuvasz.
Do you have room for the Kuvasz, and does your landlord allow dogs? Families who live in apartments or townhouses may prefer a cat, a bird or fish, rather than the Kuvasz. Check with the library or Internet to discover more about Kuvaszs to decide if another animal may be more appropriate for the family.
Being the owner of the Kuvasz is a big committment and not cheap. Your family has to understand that they are required to forsake existing activities to spend time with the Kuvasz. If the idea seems too much of a committment, you may consider postponing until the child is responsible enough to help care for the Kuvasz.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Kuvasz
Bergen advises the whole household meet the Kuvasz before committing to take it home. Getting the Kuvasz is a huge commitment, so think carefully before adopting one.
