This post is about how to teach a Basset Artesien Normand to jump for agility. Often we are asked, “How many jumps is best to start with?” You can’t ever have enough single jumps to learn agility. One suitable starting point is 4 jumps. This is the absolute fewest count of jumps recommended.
Teaching the Basset Artesien Normand to jump: Start with Four
You can teach the Basset Artesien Normand many skills, drills, and exercises with four jumps. Four jumps will let you develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can position a “box” with your jumps and work on handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Basset Artesien Normand jumping right and left. You can be out of the box and send your Basset Artesien Normand or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal line, so you could practice serpentines and threadles.
