This post is about how to teach the American Cocker Spaniel jumping for agility. Often we are asked, “What number of jumps is best to start with?” You can’t ever have enough solo jumps to teach agility. A good starting place is four jumps. This is the least count of jumps that we recommend.
Teaching the American Cocker Spaniel jumping: Begin with 4
You can teach your American Cocker Spaniel a plethora of exercises, skills, and drills with 4 jumps. 4 jumps will let you work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can setup a “box” with your jumps and work on handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your American Cocker Spaniel jumping left and right. You can be outside the box and send your American Cocker Spaniel or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be setup in a horizontal row, so you could practice serpentines and threadles.
