This blog is about how to teach a Australian Cattle Dog jumping for agility. Often we are asked, “How many jumps should I start with?” You can’t ever have too many solo jumps to learn agility. A good starting place is four jumps. This is the absolute minimum number of jumps that we recommend.
Teaching the Australian Cattle Dog jumping: Start with 4
You can teach the Australian Cattle Dog a plethora of exercises, drills, and skills with 4 jumps. Four jumps will let you work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can practice on a “box” with your jumps and practice handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Australian Cattle Dog jumping left and right. You could be outside the box and send your Australian Cattle Dog or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps can be positioned in a horizontal row, so that you could practice threadles and serpentines.
