To teach your Tibetan Spaniel tricks, even easy ones, you need to provide some yummy snacks, take him to a remote suitable place and manage to keep the training sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or your Tibetan Spaniel will begin to get bored. Always remember when he gets something correct give him great deals of praise and a reward treat, just take care not to get him overly ecstatic or he might lose focus.
Teach your Tibetan Spaniel to offer you his paw
To teach your Tibetan Spaniel to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Then do it again, and after a few tries don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You need to see that he is bringing his paw upward as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction once again. After a few sessions most Tibetan Spaniels pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Tibetan Spaniel to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high five is a progression of a simpler trick, and in this case the paw trick. Hold a treat in between your fingers and raise your hand somewhat higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Tibetan Spaniel will presume you wish to do the paw trick and will grab for the treat with his paw as we had instructed him in the prior trick. While he rises you say “high five” and give him the snack. When your Tibetan Spaniel has actually mastered the paw trick this 1 should be really simple to understand and with just a few sessions he will be doing it on hand signal instead of from your voice.
Teach your Tibetan Spaniel to leap through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t want your Tibetan Spaniel to hurt himself while performing the trick. Place your Tibetan Spaniel on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and give the Tibetan Spaniel the direction to stop sitting. Initially he may attempt to go around or beneath the hula hoop. When this happens begin again. Your Tibetan Spaniel wants the treat and will soon discover that going around or beneath doesn’t work so he will soon begin going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the floor and gradually lifted it to waist high. If you own a smaller sized dog you may desire to begin with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and after that slowly elevate it more as he gets accustomed to the trick.
I hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Tibetan Spaniel. Have patience with your Tibetan Spaniel and above all, have a good time!
