To teach your Telomian tricks, even the easy ones, you need to have some good snacks, take him to a quiet suitable location and maintain the training sessions to under fifteen minutes or the Telomian will start to get bored. Keep in mind when he gets something right give him lots of appreciation and a reward snack, just be mindful not to get him too fired up or he may well lose concentration.
Teach your Telomian to give you his paw
To teach your Telomian to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. And then repeat this, and after a few tries don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and then take it. You should observe that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the very same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response once again. After a couple of sessions most Telomians pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Telomian to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of an easier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in your fingers and lift your hand somewhat higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Telomian will think you desire to do the paw trick and will grab for the treat with his paw as we had instructed him in the previous trick. While he reaches up you say “high five” and give him the treat. When your Telomian has actually mastered the paw trick this 1 will most likely be very easy to learn and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your Telomian to jump through a hoop
Before you start this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not suspend the hoop too high as you do not want your Telomian to harm himself while carrying out the trick. Set your Telomian on one side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Telomian the direction to stop sitting. Initially he might try to go around or below the hoop. If this takes place start again. Your Telomian wants the treat and will quickly discover that going around or below doesn’t get it so he’ll soon begin going through it. If he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the floor and gradually raised it to waist height. In the case that you own a smaller sized dog you may wish to begin with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and after that slowly elevate it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
