To teach your Chihuahua tricks, even simple ones, you need to have some of his favorite treats, be in a quiet suitable place and keep the instruction sessions to under fifteen minutes or the Chihuahua will begin to get tired. Keep in mind when he gets something correct offer him great deals of praise and a reward snack, though be careful not to get him too excited or he might possibly lose concentration.
Teach your Chihuahua to give you his paw
To teach your Chihuahua to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. And then repeat this, and after a couple of practices don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and after that take it. You need to discover that he is bringing his paw upward as you say the word. If he does not then return to stating it at the exact same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your response again. After 2 or 3 sessions most Chihuahuas pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Chihuahua to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a progression of a basic trick, and in this case the paw trick. Place a snack in between your fingers and raise your hand a little higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Chihuahua will assume you desire to do the paw trick and will grab for the treat with his paw as we had taught him in the prior trick. Once he reaches up you state “high 5” and offer your Chihuahua the snack. Once your Chihuahua has mastered the paw trick this one will most likely be very easy to master and with just a couple of sessions he will be performing it on hand signal rather than voice control.
Teach your Chihuahua to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little sensible and not suspend the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Chihuahua to harm himself while practicing the trick. Place your Chihuahua to one side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and give the Chihuahua the direction to stop sitting. At first he may try to go around or beneath the hula hoop. When this takes place start once again. Your Chihuahua desires the snack and will soon discover that going around or underneath doesn’t get it done so he’ll quickly begin going through it. The minute he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually lifted it to waist height. If you own a smaller dog you may wish to begin with the hoop touching the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and then gradually elevate it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
I hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Chihuahua. Have patience with your Chihuahua and most importantly, have fun!
