To teach your Chien-Gris tricks, even simple ones, you should carry some yummy snacks, take him to a secluded suitable location and try to keep the coaching sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or the Chien-Gris will begin to get tired. Just remember when he gets something right offer him lots of praise and a reward snack, just take care not to get him excessively fired up or he will lose focus.
Teach your Chien-Gris to give you his paw
To get your Chien-Gris to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. Then do it again, and after a couple of successful tries don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and then take it. You should see that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your response once again. After two or three sessions most Chien-Griss pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Chien-Gris to offer you a high 5
Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your fingers and raise your hand somewhat higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Chien-Gris will believe you desire to perform the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we had trained him in the previous trick. As he reaches up you state “high 5” and offer your Chien-Gris the treat. Once your Chien-Gris has actually mastered the paw trick this 1 should be really simple to learn and with only a few sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal rather than vocal commands.
Teach your Chien-Gris to leap through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop too high as you do not really want your Chien-Gris to injure himself while performing the trick. Set your Chien-Gris on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and give the Chien-Gris the command to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to go around or below the hoop. When this occurs start once again. Your Chien-Gris desires the snack and will quickly learn that going around or beneath doesn’t get it so he’ll soon begin going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll soon be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I initially started doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop six inches from the floor and slowly increased it to waist height. In case you have a smaller sized dog you may desire to start with the hoop on the ground so he just goes through the hoop and after that slowly lift it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
I know you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Chien-Gris. Have patience with your Chien-Gris and most of all, have a good time!
