All of us imagine training the perfect Cane Corso, a puppy that’s a CGC or canine good citizen and is very well behaved and reliable at all times. Well dreams really do come true if the teaching is performed with care and commitment. Don’t forget pups learn from day one and really need to be informed what is correct, what isn’t, and proper interpersonal skills.
Pups are like children, they crave regular direction and teaching. Training a pup need not be a nightmare, all you have to keep in mind are a few straightforward rules:
10 Tips For Training Your Cane Corso
- Til your pup is trained, you have to keep an eye on her at all times. If you can’t then you will need to cage him. Design a plan for the pup, this will help him to settle very quickly. The plan has to include things such as hourly bathroom visits, feeding times, relaxation periods, strolls, play time, teaching, and so forth. A pup that has a full day has no time at all to get unoccupied or misbehave.
- Train the pup to heed you. Cane Corsos live in packs and instinctively comply with a leader. If you establish your leadership in no uncertain terms then training will get easy as the pup will comply with orders at all times and not test your power.
- Use exclusively positive training methods. Don’t scream at, attack, or abuse your Cane Corso. It’s not only cruel but can easily result in behavioral challenges. Use of electrical shocks, prong collars, sprays, et cetera could quite possibly hurt the animal.
- Teach the pup “absolutely nothing in this life is free.” This is a philosophy that is generally recognized as a very useful teaching tool. When you apply this, your pup will learn that to get something like affection, a walk, or reward, he must act well.
- Demonstrate the meaning of “No,” from day one. Do not advocate behaviors like leaping, yelping, tug-o-war, yipping, or running out of open gates and doorways. Appreciate good behavior and dismiss or leave when there is bad behavior. The pup will learn that if he is mischievous he will lose his companion/playmate.
- To deal with a habit you will need to witness the Cane Corso in the process and startle him by rattling a can of marbles. As soon as you have done this make him deal with his behavior and immediately give him a treat and approval. Cane Corsos do not recollect what transpired previously so chastening him after an occurrence is useless.
- Always call/use his name favorably. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will result in mental confusion and the Cane Corso will presume that if you call his name then it is something bad. The pup should relate his name with happy events like hugs, petting, walks, snacks, and such. If this transpires he will approach happily once you call out his name.
- Generate a training regimen that is short and sweet, about 10 minutes three times a day. Long recurring sessions can be dull and the Cane Corso will lose interest in the learning session. Help make lessons cool and use trick training to explain commands like sit, down, come and so on.
- Bond with the Cane Corso and both of you are going to appreciate your sessions. The pup needs to anticipate spending quality time with you and not avoid you by breaking away or taking cover. Be sure to socialize the young dog quickly. Socialization is among the most vital lessons. The Cane Corso will need to master how to be with other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. Therefore, slowly introduce the puppy dog when he is small to common activities and sounds. Take him to the shopping mall/ playground, introduce him to children and other pets, and make him unafraid of the vacuum cleaner and garden hose.
