All of us hope for training the perfect Telomian, a puppy that is a CGC or canine good citizen and is very well behaved and dependable at all times. Well dreams do come true if the training is performed with care and focus. Remember pups learn from day one and want to be shown what is right, what is wrong, and appropriate interpersonal skills.
Pups are just like young children, they have to have frequent direction and teaching. Training a pup need not be a nightmare, all you want to think about are a few straightforward guidelines:
Top Ten Tips For Training Your Telomian
- Up until your pup is trained, you must keep an eye on her at all times. Whenever you aren’t able to then you must cage her. Establish a routine for the pup, this will help him to settle down fast. The schedule should include things such as hourly bathroom breaks, feeding times, sleep periods, strolls, play time, teaching, and so forth. A pup that has a busy day has no time at all to get unoccupied or get into mischief.
- Train the pup to respect you. Telomians stay in packs and naturally need a leader. When you establish your dominance in no uncertain terms then instructing will get easy because the pup will heed you at all times and not defy your authority.
- Use exclusively positive training methods. Don’t holler at, smack, or abuse your Telomian. It is not only harsh but can easily trigger behavioral problems. Use of electrical shocks, prong collars, sprays, et cetera could very well wound the animal.
- Teach the pup “absolutely nothing in this life is free.” This is a method of teaching that is universally accepted as a very useful training tool. As you emphasize this, the pup will be taught that to experience something like love, a walk, or snack, he has to behave properly.
- Show the significance of “No,” from the first day. Do not reinforce behaviors like jumping, mouthing, tug-o-war, snarling, or escaping open gates and doors. Celebrate excellent behavior and ignore or leave when there is bad conduct. The pup will realize that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
- To correct a behavior you should catch the Telomian in the act and surprise her by rattling a bottle of stones. When you have done this help him rectify his behavior and immediately give him a snack and approval. Telomians do not recall what transpired earlier so scolding him after an occurrence is useless.
- Be certain to call/use his name positively. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will induce mental confusion and the Telomian will presume that if you call his name then it is for something bad. The dog should connect his name with pleasant events like hugs, petting, walks, treats, and such. If this occurs he will respond willingly the instant you call his name.
- Establish a teaching regimen that is short and sweet, say 10 minutes three times a day. Lengthy recurring trainings can be monotonous and the Telomian is going to lose interest in the learning session. Make learning interesting and use trick training sessions to teach orders like sit, down, come et cetera.
- Bond with the Telomian and both of you will love your sessions. The pup must hope for spending time with you and not avoid you by breaking away or taking cover. Be sure to socialize the puppy very early. Socialization is one of the most crucial lessons. The Telomian will need to master how to coexist with other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. So, gradually introduce the puppy dog when he is little to everyday endeavors and sounds. Take him to the market/ park, introduce him to children and other pets, and make him unfrightened of the vacuum cleaner and garden hose.
- Discover everything about cage training, leash walking, house breaking, as well as food training. These are basic lessons that every Telomian puppy should grasp. Know about all the mannerisms as well as peculiarities of the breed. This will give you useful ideas on how to successfully educate the doggie.
As a Telomian owner you have many options. You could very well choose to train the Telomian by yourself or register at a qualified training school. Training a Telomian has many levels: preschool, obedience training, doggie sports, presenting and conformation, in addition to other components like therapy dogs, hearing dogs, and more. What values you choose to coach is dependent on you along with the brainpower of your Telomian. As you recognize, various dogs, like humans, have different talents. Choose wisely and both you and your Telomian pup will have enjoyable times together.
