All of us hope for training the perfect Curly Coated Retriever, a puppy that’s a CGC or canine good citizen and is well behaved and reliable at all times. Well dreams really do come true when the training is performed with kindness and commitment. Keep in mind pups learn from day one and need to be instructed what is right, what isn’t, and ideal socialization.
Puppies behave like young children, they require regular guidance and instruction. Training a pup does not have to be a nightmare, all you have to take note of are a few basic guidelines:

- Til your pup is trained, you have to keep an eye on him at all times. Once you can’t then you have to cage her. Create a calendar for the pup, that will help him to settle fast. The schedule should consist of things like hourly bathroom visits, feeding times, rest periods, strolls, play time, exercise, etc. A pup that has a very busy day has no time for being unoccupied and misbehave.
- Teach the pup to respect you. Curly Coated Retrievers stay in packs and instinctively adhere to a leader. When you establish your leadership in no uncertain terms then training will eventually become easy because the pup will comply with orders at all times and not test your power.
- Use exclusively positive training strategies. Do not ever shout at, attack, or abuse your Curly Coated Retriever. It is not only unkind but can easily lead to behavioral issues. Using electric shocks, prong collars, sprays, and so on could injure the animal.
- Show the pup “nothing in this life is without cost.” This is a method of teaching that is broadly regarded as an useful coaching tool. When you execute this, the pup will be taught that to get something like affection, a walk, or reward, he has to behave properly.
- Present the significance of “No,” from day one. Do not reinforce behaviors like leaping, yelping, tug-o-war, barking, or escaping open gates and doors. Appreciate great behavior and disregard or leave when there is bad conduct. The pup will learn that if he is mischievous he will lose his companion/playmate.

The puppy needs to affiliate his name with pleasant times like hugs, petting, walks, snacks, and such. If this happens he will approach willingly the moment you call out his name.
- Establish a teaching routine that is short and sweet, say ten minutes 3 times a day. Long repetitive trainings can be uninteresting and the Curly Coated Retriever is going to lose interest in learning. Help make learning exciting and use trick training sessions to teach orders like sit, down, come and so on.
- Bond with the Curly Coated Retriever and both of you will get a kick out of your sessions. The pup needs to look forward to spending quality time with you and not stay away from you by breaking away or hiding. Be sure to socialize the puppy dog quickly. Socialization is one of the most essential teachings. The Curly Coated Retriever must learn to coexist with other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. And so, slowly and gradually introduce the puppy when he is small to common events and sounds. Take him to the market/ playground, introduce him to kids and other pets, and make him unfrightened of the vacuum cleaner and water hose.
