Sooner or later, every parent is likely to be asked: “Mom, can we get that English Bulldog puppy?”
Rather than avoid the question, parents should think about whether or not the clan is ready for a puppy, especially a English Bulldog, says Sharon Bergen, SVP of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, this country’s foremost provider of early childcare.
When asking yourself “should the family get the English Bulldog” Bergen advises the parents evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of bringing the English Bulldog to the household prior to acquiescing to a child’s wishes. “The English Bulldog can teach kids about responsibility and be a welcome addition to a family-or it can be a regret,” she said. Bergen advises you think about the following before committing:
Things to Ponder Before Answering Should You Get The English Bulldog Puppy
Who will be the one to care for the English Bulldog? Parents and children must come to an agreement beforehand who will be the one in charge of feeding, bathing, walking and cleaning up after the English Bulldog.
Is there an area for the English Bulldog, or does your landlord allow dogs? Families who live in apartments or townhouses may be better suited to a bird, a fish, or cat, instead of the English Bulldog. Check your local library or online to find out more about English Bulldogs to decide if another animal may be more suited for your household.
Owning the English Bulldog is time consuming and can be expensive. The family has to realize that they may have to give up current activities to spend time with the English Bulldog. If that idea is too daunting, parents may consider waiting until the child is committed enough to help care for the English Bulldog.
Conclusion: Should You Get A English Bulldog
Bergen recommends the entire household meet the English Bulldog prior to committing to take it home. Owning the English Bulldog is a huge commitment, so decide carefully before adopting a furry new family member.
