Should you get a Shar Pei puppy?Eventually, every parent is likely to be asked: “Please, may I have that Shar Pei puppy?”

Rather than avoid the question, parents should decide whether or not their family is prepared for a new puppy, and even moreso a Shar Pei, says Sharon Bergen, senior vice president of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, the country’s leading provider of early childhood education.

While pondering “should you get the Shar Pei” Bergen suggests the parents weigh the positives and negatives of adding the Shar Pei to the household prior to giving in to a child’s wishes. “The Shar Pei can teach your kids about responsibility and be a great addition to the family-or it can be a burden,” she says. Bergen advises families think about the following before deciding:

Things to Think About Before Deciding Should You Get The Shar Pei Puppy

Who will be the one to care for the Shar Pei? Families should agree in advance who is to be in charge of feeding, bathing, walking and cleaning up after the Shar Pei.

Is there space for the Shar Pei, or does your landlord allow dogs? Folks living in apartments or townhouses may prefer a bird, a cat, or fish, instead of the Shar Pei. Check your library or online to discover more about Shar Peis to learn if another breed may be more suitable for the household.

Rearing the Shar Pei is a big committment and can be expensive. Your family must understand that they are required to give up existing activities to spend time with the Shar Pei. If that requirement turns out to be too daunting, you might think about delaying until the child is responsible enough to help raise the Shar Pei.

Conclusion: Should You Get A Shar Pei

Bergen recommends the entire family meet the Shar Pei in advance of committing to take it home. Owning the Shar Pei is a big commitment, so decide carefully before adopting a furry new family member.
